In his book, Bigger Than This, Fabian Geryhalter explores commodity product companies that were able to turn themselves into admired brands by giving the customers more than just a commodity product. With the spotlight around tech companies it can feel like the only way to start a “successful” business nowadays is to have a tech startup and get funded by venture capitalists.
You have to define what success means for you and not let the noise of keeping up with the Jones’ dictate your decisions.
I’ll leave you with this quote from Fabian Geyrhalter:
“Even though we love to overthink it, branding is a lot like other complex creative endeavors. Just think of a great TV series: It’s a very well though out and engaging story that feels new yet is relatable. There is no scripted ending so it can adjust over time. It is crafted for a specific audience and, lastly, delivered through distinct, creative, and consistent execution.”
