The 3 keys to finding the perfect traveling group on your entrepreneurial journey

It probably seems like you’re carrying the burden of the entire universe, but everything takes time.

TLDR:

  • Establish a presence in online communities and nurture relationships with people a part of it. If you truly love what you’re doing, you’ll become an active member without even realizing it.
  • You are the company you keep. People won’t want to join you on your journey if you spend a lot of time with someone you know you wouldn’t even dream of doing a group project with together.
  • No matter how hard it may seem right now, remain steadfast in your journey, and apply the two aforementioned pointers.

Unless you’re a solopreneuer, you want to build whatever you are with people who share the same values and vision as you.

The first thing that’ll come to mind are your friends, but if they’re too occupied with their own lives or you know they wouldn’t necessarily have the same level of commitment and drive as you, you’re out of luck.

Or so that’s what you’ll most probably think.

If you’re an entrepreneur who has been working on something for quite some time, chances are you may have already reached the point where it’s too much for you to do on your own, as though you’re carrying the burden of the entire universe on your shoulders.

You might be thinking of outsourcing if it’s logistically possible for you, but at the same time, you want someone whom you can build a mutual relationship with, who aligns with the same values and vision as you, and who has the same level of commitment and drive you can bounce ideas off and vice versa to bring to reality the beast you strongly believe the idea can be.

It’s coming, you just have to remain steadfast.

But how is it coming you ask?

1. Establish a presence in online communities

Whether it’s a subreddit, Twitter community, or online forums, establish a presence in online communities and create relationships with the people a part of them.

When on such a journey, it is pertinent to immerse yourself in the world in as many avenues as possible, and online communities are an excellent avenue, for the odds are if your journey is something you truly enjoy doing, you’ll end up being a very active member of the community.

That will lead to creating relationships with other active members of the community, which further compounds into becoming a prominent figure and in the process, finding the one you click with instantly from the very first interaction who is an excellent complement to you.

It is also important to build your personal brand and leverage it in such communities. You can download our free eBook on how you can use ChatGPT to boost your personal brand here.

2. You are who your company is

You’ve most likely heard of the adage “you are who your company is” at some point in your life, and it’s true.

The company one keeps communicates a lot about them to a person who may not even know the first thing about them. Yet, it's often enough to create a perception of the said individual with relatively decent accuracy.

With that token, it also applies to attracting people to be on the same journey as you, whether in online communities or in real life.

If you frequently spend a lot of time with a person who’s the polar opposite of who you are and what you truly stand for, why would people be willing to go through the same ups and downs as you on your journey and have faith in your vision?

3. Remain Steadfast

We’ll reiterate it once again: remain steadfast.

On your entrepreneurial journey, there are all sorts of checkpoints, such as long-term and short-term ones that you have in mind to reach within a certain period, and even ones that are unscheduled and never would’ve crossed your mind at all as you traverse.

And even though it may seem like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel and that you may have to take a detour to reach those checkpoints or even take the exit off your journey altogether, continue to remain steadfast.

If you commit to the two aforementioned pointers on top of remaining steadfast in your journey, irrespective of how long it will take, you’ll find the distant traveler(s) on the side of the road like in the movies with whom you know you can form a perfect traveling group, for as Vinh Giang says, “you’re trying to see all 10 steps of the stairs, [but] the only way to see Step 2 is once you’re on Step 1.”

For however long it may take until you form that perfect traveling group, it may continue to feel as though the burden of the entire universe is indeed on your shoulders. However, remember that patience is a virtue and that you will be paid in dividends for remaining steadfast and improving how you traverse through your journey.
