5 common mistakes wantrepeneurs make

TLDR:

  • For many, it’s quite easy to generate ideas. But where’s the action?
  • If there is action, it’s after several months in hopes of the recipe finally being perfected. To start, being ready enough is plenty.
  • Originality is certainly the ideal route to take, but it’s very hard a lot of the time to devise something completely groundbreaking. Enhancing currently existing successful ideas is just as valid when it comes to entrepreneurship.
  • Learn to differentiate between wants and needs. Firstly, recognize that you need to get your hands dirty if you wish to be at the finish line of the outcome you desire.
  • Everyone has the same 24 hours, and especially if you’re a beginner, trying multiple things at once is bound to fail. If that’s what you’re doing, you’re certainly a jack of all trades, but a master of none.
  • Nothing worthwhile comes easy, and you won’t know if it was the right decision to take by quitting so soon.

Mistakes to avoid so your entrepreneurial journey isn’t namesake

These days, a lot of people are giving it a shot in the world of entrepreneurship, but many of them end up essentially shooting up in the air with their attempts with how many mistakes they make.

Many of these are common, and we’ll be going over 5 of them in this article.

1. Lots of ideas, no implementation

For some, it may be as easy as 1-2-3 to generate ideas. However, the action is nowhere to be found. Or if there is some degree of action involved, it’s after several months in hopes of being perfect and ready right from the get-go.

But the reality is that you almost never can be perfect and ready. Ready enough is key.

Just get started.

2. Originality is the only way to succeed

Some people find themselves under the preconceived notion that the only way to succeed is to be original.

In an ideal world, your idea should be original and unique, but such are very hard to come by.

You can be just as much of an entrepreneur by further enhancing an already existing successful idea, or introducing it into third world countries, where it is most likely nonexistent.

3. Not differentiating between want and need

Wantpreneurs often want many things, but most of the time they aren’t doing the things they absolutely should be doing.

A prime example is getting your hands dirty.

Some may have an image in their minds where you’re getting work done from a corner office in downtown while observing the mesmerizing view of the city defined as entrepreneurship, but to reach that junction, you have to get your hands dirty. It’s all about grasping any opportunity that may arise, and connecting with people who are willing to take a punt on you.

4. Focusing on multiple things at once

Often times, many wantrepreneurs will be focusing on too many things at once, rather than focus on just one thing.

Remember that everyone has the same 24 hours, it’s all about what you prioritize. Though it obviously isn’t impossible to be running multiple businesses at once, for most people (particularly when you’re just a beginner), it’s logistically unfeasible for you to be great at all of them. Instead, double down on the one thing you’re most interested in pursuing, niching it down to the max.

Otherwise, you’ll find that you are indeed a jack of all trades, but a master at none of them.

5. Giving up too soon

You’ll think that you’ve just smelt the coffee, but in reality, it only just started brewing.

Nothing that’s worthwhile comes easy in life, and entrepreneurship is no exception; far from it.

Such experiences are a very steep learning curve, and you’ll reap the rewards for it only after putting in all the hard yards, blood, and sweat into mastering your craft and embracing the mistakes that come along the way to benefit you in the long run.

If you’re just giving up a month or two in, there’s no way you’d be able to properly gauge if it really was the right decision.

Naturally, there’ll be many ups and downs as you traverse through this journey, and that too the latter a lot of the time. But if experiencing only those is enough to make you call it a night for good, then that’s the biggest, most common mistake you’d make, forever remaining a wantrepreneur.
