4 ways to monetize your 1000+ social media following

Maximizing the earning potential of your content

So you’ve amassed a bit of a following on social media after some time of consistently posting content and interacting with the people of the demographic you target, and now you want to monetize it but aren’t sure how to start.

We’ll be explaining 5 methods you can utilize to help you get the ball rolling.

1. Join Affiliate Programs

Depending on how much in excess of 1000+ followers and reach you have, signing up for affiliate programs is a good starting point.

Examples include HubSpot if you publish business content, LEGO if your content is oriented around popular entertainment mediums like Harry Potter and Star Wars, and Amazon Associates if you may be a combination of the two.

2. Create and Sell a Course

If your line of work happens to be fairly on the niche side, then you may have hit the jackpot.

As Alex Hormozi would say, “the riches are in the niches.”

The more niche you are, the more you’re able to compete at a “category of one” and charge a high premium for it by serving a unique avatar to help solve a very specific problem, demonstrated below.

The more niche your content, the more unique your experiences in building the account most likely are, which you can leverage in creating a course to help people who want to publish content in this space and fetch a very good price for that.

3. Paid Memberships

Consider publishing content behind a paywall or which can only be accessed through purchasing a membership.

Paid content should be more in-depth and oriented around what defines your unique selling proposition (USP) that makes people follow your account in the first place. For example, if you’re a well-respected budding sports analyst in the space you’re a part of, you can publish a much more thorough analysis of popular teams and players behind a paywall.

4. Sell Your Account

If you feel there isn’t any more scope for organic growth in the niche you’re a part of or that you’ve reached your ceiling, you can look to cash in the time invested by selling the account.

1000 followers may not seem a lot to look to begin monetizing, but from personal experience, it is an impressive feat to achieve, particularly if you’re part of a much more niche subcommunity, which probably took you quite a while. And remember that it’s a clear indicator that people really do enjoy what you post, so if you’re good at it, why not begin monetizing it today?
